Galileo

Of Greek and Hebrew origin.

From the Latin word Galilaeus.

A transcription of the Greek “Galileos”, meaning “from Galilee”.

Derives from the Greek word «Γαλιλαία» (Galilea), in English Galilee, referring to the area in North Palestine, associated with the life and teaching of Jesus Christ.

The Greek word derives from Hebrew word “galil”, meaning “area”, “circle”.

The name is known from the Italian philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer Galileo Galilei.

Galileo is considered as the first scientist who transformed the philosophy of nature into science, by recognizing experimentation as a method for discovering scientific facts.

He was imprisoned as a heretic due to his theory that the Earth was not the center of the universe but circles the Sun.

Galileo has never entered the top-1000 in the U.S.A. popularity lists.
