Cynthia

Of Greek origin.

An epithet of Artemis, the Greek goddess of the moon. According to legend she was born on Mount Kynthos, on Delos island.

It was not used as a given name until the Renaissance and it did not become common in the English speaking world until the 19th century.

Selene, the Greek personification of the Moon and the Roman Diana were also sometimes called “Cynthia”.

A name with various spellings that can be abbreviated as Cindy.
